A Dialogue with God Amid the Wildfires: A Christian Perspective

The following dialogue is a reflection—an attempt to explore heartfelt questions and divine responses as they might occur in prayer or meditative thought. It is a prayerful expression of faith rooted in Scripture and inspired by a deep desire to seek God’s wisdom amidst life’s challenges:

Me: Lord, as I watch the wildfires ravage California, my heart is heavy with sorrow. How do You see what is happening?

God: My child, My creation groans under the weight of sin and its consequences. These wildfires, like other calamities, are a reminder that the world is not as I intended it to be. I mourn with you for the pain and destruction you see.
“For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now.” (Romans 8:22)
Me: Lord, why do these disasters happen? Can You not stop them?
God: I am sovereign, and nothing happens outside My will. Yet, I gave humanity stewardship over creation. The choices made—both to care for and neglect My creation—have consequences. Sometimes, these disasters result from that broken stewardship.
“The heavens are the heavens of Yahweh, but the earth He has given to the sons of men.” (Psalm 115:16)
“Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.” (Galatians 6:7)
Me: Lord, I feel helpless. What can I do?
God: My child, turn your heart toward Me and pray. Pray for the people affected, for the firefighters, for the restoration of the land, and for wisdom to care for My creation. Return to Me, for I am near to all who call upon My name.
“If My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Me: Lord, do You really hear our prayers? Do You care enough to act?
God: My child, I am Yahweh, the God who hears and answers prayer. I am near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit. When you call to Me, I listen, and in My time, I act for your good and My glory.
“The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears and delivers them out of all their troubles.” (Psalm 34:17)
“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things which you do not know.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
Me: Lord, is there hope for restoration?
God: Yes, My child. I am the God of restoration. Even amidst the ashes, I can bring beauty and renewal. Trust in Me, for My purposes are greater than you can see. I work all things together for good for those who love Me.
“To grant those who mourn in Zion, giving them a headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting.” (Isaiah 61:3)
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)
Me: Thank You, Lord. I will trust You and continue to pray for Your mercy and guidance. Help me to be a better steward of Your creation.
God: My child, I am with you always. Seek Me, and I will guide you. Love Me with all your heart, and care for My creation as I have entrusted it to you. I will never leave you nor forsake you.
“And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)
“Yahweh will not abandon His people, nor will He forsake His inheritance.” (Psalm 94:14).
