  منذ فترة طويلة، وخاصة في الأشهر الأخيرة، شاهدت دموع ربنا يسوع المسيح على وجوه العديد من العائلات التي جاءت حديثًا من مصر إلى أمريكا. علاوة على ظروف الأقباط في مصر على مر التاريخ زادت الأسعار في هذه الأيام بصورة جنونية وأجبرت معظم المصريين على العيش تحت خط الفقر، وتدهورت قيمة الجنيه المصري مقابل الدولار الأمريكي. وهذا الوضع أضاف إلى معاناة الأسر الجديدة القادمة إلى أمريكا، فمهما حملوا معهم من العملة المصرية يصابون بصدمة عندما يكتشفون أن قيمة أموالهم لا تعادل شيئًا من الدولارات. إنهم بحاجة إلى عمل شاق لمدة ثلاثة إلى ستة أشهر على الأقل - إذا كان بإمكانهم العثور على أي عمل - لكي يستطيعوا تأجير شقة وتوفير معيشتهم. والسؤال الذي يفرض نفسه: من أين وكيف يمكن لهؤلاء الأشخاص أن يعيشوا ويعبروا أزمة البداية الصعبة للحياة في أمريكا؟ وهل هناك من يساعد؟ لهذا السبب - نحن في كنيسة القديس مرقس - نصلي لكي يكون لدينا مبنى سكني متعدد الطوابق ومفروش، "بيت القديس الأنبا أبرام"، لاستضافة بعض هذه العائلات لمدة 3 أشهر على الأقل، ومساعدتهم لعبور هذه الأزمة. وإلى أن يتحقق هذا، نبحث أيضًا عن متبرعين أسخ
