A Prayerful Message to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV: A Call for Eucharistic Unity
With deep joy and reverence, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV on his election as the 267th Bishop of Rome and Supreme Pontiff of the Holy Catholic Church.
May the Lord Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd and Eternal High Priest, fill Your Holiness with divine wisdom, strength, and peace as you begin your sacred ministry of shepherding the Church in this pivotal time of history.
At this moment of grace and renewal, I raise a humble and heartfelt appeal — that Your Holiness may stand united with all the Churches that confess the real presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist — His true Body and His true Blood — to work together toward the restoration of Eucharistic unity.
This unity is not a mere symbol of agreement, but a faithful response to the prayer of Christ Himself:
“That they may all be one, even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me” (John 17:21).
The Eucharist is the mystery of our communion with Christ and with one another. At His table, the Church is meant to be visibly one — yet history has witnessed painful separations. To pursue Eucharistic unity is to seek the healing of Christ’s Body, the Church, and to bear witness to the unity that flows from His sacrifice.
Such a unity, grounded in the truth of Christ’s real presence, would become a living foundation for deeper ecumenical dialogue, renewing our shared calling to walk together in faith, hope, and love. As we partake of the one Bread and drink from the one Cup, we proclaim our shared Lord and our longing to be truly one in Him.
As Saint Paul reminds us:
“Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body; for we all partake of the one bread” (1 Corinthians 10:17),
“Until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God…” (Ephesians 4:13).
With unwavering hope, I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide Your Holiness to be a courageous and compassionate instrument of unity — that the Holy Eucharist, which is Christ Himself, may once again become the visible sign and source of communion among all believers who revere His real presence.
May your pontificate shine with the love of Christ, the light of truth, and the longing for oneness that our Lord entrusted to His Church.
In the love of Christ,
